I taught guitar professionally for about a decade, I play interesting bits of music and I talk about improving your playing. : )
Gorguts - Reduced To Silence (Dat Riff!)
I remember the first time I heard Gorguts I was blown away by how weird and dissonant they are! This riff is less dissonant than their average but it's still got some extremely odd harmonies. I think over time they've really grown as songwriters and Coloured Sands is an incredible album.

Hey all, hope you're doing great! Listening to some more Solitude and really got into this riff, so I spent a few evenings putting a cover together for you! Hoping to do some cool new lesson/video essay stuff but progress is slow. Probably doing some abstract stuff on the aesthetics of heaviness and some stuff around Sol Niger Within... what would you like to see?
Meshuggah Note Choice - Writing Original Chaosphere/Nothing Style Riffs

Putting my money where my mouth is - do the concepts I've described actually help you write like Meshuggah? You be the judge, I'm pretty happy that this sounds like Meshuggah half-way between Chaosphere and Nothing. No Oath - Nine (Dat Riff!)
Переглядів 3,6 тис.2 роки тому
No Oath creating whole new kinds of THALL. These pitch bends and reverb are just gorgeous. Rhythm guitar is F standard 8 string, pitched down 10 semitones, so, what G0? 4Hz to go before it's inaudible. :P Lead guitar is a pretty normal lead tone, with lots of postprocessing for delays, reverb and subtle pitch shifts. Normally I try and do my pitch shifts with string bending but I felt the digit...

Vildhjarta - thall kaos 2 (new teaser)
Переглядів 3,4 тис.3 роки тому
These teasers are all excellent, take my money Vildjharta. I'm playing what I think I hear in the right stereo channel guitar track. I think I played this in standard with the lowest string dropped to F, recorded in a hurry and just slammed the tuning pegs till I liked it.

Indistinct bring some cool new sounds to THALL, and their Violent Ends album is fantastic. It has big fat riffs, cool ambient sections, and every track feels like a cohesive songs instead of a riff demo. (indistinct.bandcamp.com/album/violent-ends)
Meshuggah - Stifled (Dat Solo!)
Переглядів 8 тис.3 роки тому
Lithe, harsh and sinuous - this solo is one of Meshuggah's greatest. I hate to analyse solos I can't play so I made the effort to dig in and learn this one, which turned out to be a pleasure. Amusingly, it was the second lick that ended up giving me the most trouble, not the fancy legato stuff towards the end. I didn't have the time to figure this out by ear and really didn't like the available...

Other great Job 🤘
Great Job. Subcribed 💻💪
Identical to the original Bro, congratulations!!
This is fantastic I’ve been curious how someone else has been playing this and your vid is clean as can be. Excellent playing !
Thank you! It took a lot of practice :D
Most underrated band ever.
That's a pretty awesome (and faithful) recreation of that incredible riff, and that tone is on-point! Doubly impressed given that the original riff was done digitally so matching it on a real guitar is awesome. I absolutely love The Equalizer on account of that solo, and Gloria for the same reason. Can I ask if you used pedals for that tone and what ones you use if so? I've been trying to use pedals but can't quite get the match I want, only sort of ballpark so far.
Thank you! I used an AxeFx II for the tone, I don't know if I saved it, but the main thing was to use a pitchshift effect up one octave. Otherwise you're going to need more than 24 frets to hit all the notes :P
Little Pat Metheny in there
What pedal do they use for that one sound?
Um yea. Its ok your lost.
Very good! Where did you meet Time Consuming and Metal Music Theory? Insane meeting of the very specific youtube niche haha
I met Yogev at Freak Guitar Camp (he was a guest instructor), I met MMT while visiting the US, we're big mutual fans. It was extremely wholesome!
Especially when we copy Holdsworth note for note, draw upon the essence of it, remember the basis of the licks. And then keep developing your own voice. Learn it, but move on quickly. Why, do you ask? BECAUSE ALLAN IMPROVISED ALL OF HIS SOLOS!!! If we stay in the copy/cover stage of learning too long....we never develop our own voice.
So this is basic the same tuning used by Meshuggah in the song "Spasm"? (A# A# D# G# C# F# A# D#)
I think thats correct! :)
@@FreepowerUG Oh hey! Welcome back!
@@BiRDiEHere <3 I'm not dead, just working on new music at the moment >.>
So gross. =)
Just stumbled across this and your channel. It's brilliant.
Thank you! I've put a lot of work in, glad you enjoyed it!
are there tabs for this song?
Your so young it makes your lyrics funny, its like, it makes sense but do you really 'trek the void with phantom limbs?' because you were 'agonised into action' or are you just saying that because you saw something similar somewhere? anyway, hope you never understand where every song thats worth listening to actually comes from. Cause its not cool LOL
Bruh, I have been listening to curve for about year or so straight. You really did something special
Nice video essay, great analysis :)
Interesting seeing it done without a trem. One of the nastiest riffs. \m/
A no mames!!! Que chingon wey NO MAMES!!!! WOOOOOOOOW😮
Its just fucking awesome, dat sound
1:02 I bet you cut yourself
Horijoshi right?
No Hirajoshi anywhere IIRC, it uses both HW and WH diminished scales (might have the order mixed up). See the attached analysis video for details!
I bookmarked this video and the bookmark text cuts of to "I Made A Smol Niger ..." 💀💀 Great song / album though. And interesting vid as always <3
Thank you! I had so much fun making this I'm starting to work on more material in this style :D
@@FreepowerUG nice! I have been listening to it up and down throughout the last week or so, so defo hungry for more :D
10 years later still goes so hard
Practice makes perfect my guy. Well done 💯
Probably Berzerker’s best song honestly from their (arguably) best album as well. Dissimulate is a masterpiece!
Agreed! It's funny watching the DVD, almost everything that could go wrong making the first album did go wrong, so for Dissimulate they had learned their lessons and it was a smooth studio experience (with a proper mix/master!).
What tuning did you use bro? This was so....THAAALLL
So, the tuning you we're in is the same that Meshuggah's Spasm was in?
E C E A B G B E is such an interesting tuning man! I might use it some day. Sick video man!
I've been playing this song by ear and the chords I feel under the solo are F minor, Ab major and Bb major. they get colored with 4, 6, 7 and 9 by the melody notes, but I saw no reason not to interpret the basic harmony like this. Cool video, love the fractal backgrounds!
Ayo circle of contempt?
Would rather you play solo than with the song in background.
Fucking awesome! Nailed it
Thank you <3
So sick dude, love this album
Who needs skin, when we have this riff?
Excellent job!
Excellent work all around. Feels like the sequel and that is an accomplishment. Tasty flow, riffs, note choices, grooves, fun and atmosphere. Well done.
Thank you so much! It means a lot coming from you, I've always admired your own output! 🤘
I had absolutely no idea that you had even listened to the GOD material. So likewise that you have taken the time to listen. Much love and respect. I absolutely have loved your Meshuggah analysis videos. Spot on and well explained. @@FreepowerUG
I think you can play that last riff on one guitar!
Hah, it's doable, if you have a whammy pedal and a *lot* of practice time. I didn't have enough practice time. :P
so cool! excellent job, Daniel!
Love these guys. I built the snare that's on the whole album.
That's really cool! I was really disappointed when I saw that they'd had a bass (and maybe more instruments) stolen :(
Can't believe we're getting all of this for free! thanks Daniel!
Im so glad i discovered your channel omg
Welcome! I'll still be uploading occasionally, hope you enjoy em! :D
Love this sooo much. This solo is just so good
it would have been better to see someone do the whole song or at least the chuggy part
CGCGCFAD is a stank-face tuning, for sure
My favorite part of the entire album
BIG BLACK HOLE SOUND 👍👍👍
